A cute, chick-flick take on Risky Business, starring big-hair blond Elisabeth Shue (she beat Valerie Bertinelli for the part). She rocks as a nice, bad-ass babysitter negotiating a hellnight in Chicago full of: expressway blow-outs, a hook-handed jealous husband, goodfella thieves, serious blues clubs, a pisser boyfriend, and death-drop plank-walks.
Chris Columbus' first job as director (he wrote The Goonies and Gremlins and went on to brownnose Harry Potter), Adventures in Babysitting showcases the magic of crack and Reagan--i.e. the wildcat paradox of "maximum irresponsibility meets ferocious control" that underpins everything-80s from Back to the Future to Scarface.
